Hood Pin Decals

Modifications to resin model:
Besides making the original master for this model (shown on the "In progress" Page)...
Front wheel wells were moved reward to stock position, front of wheel well was cut out,
bottom of rear quarter panels were reshaped, new rear valence was added, licence plate was filled in,
rear valance lines were carved in. Plastic strip added to B-Pillar, front direction bumper lights cut out,
cone shaped head lights were drilled out, door handles removed, all gauges removed from dash,
gauge frame made from plastic strips, Plymouth letters on hood removed, interior tub & rear bumper discarded.

Scratch built features on build:
Radiator support, front tube straight axle, spindles, front shocks, steering rod & tie rods, throttle rod,
front axles (from small nails), down tubes on roll bars, shift lever, part of steering wheel shaft, steering rod,
tachometer mount & cable, gear shift display, fuel shut off cable, seat belts, parachute pull & cables, parachute mount,
parachute straps, parachute belts & rope, all straps & ropes painted blue, parachute release clasp,
door panels from plastic sheet and lines cut to resemble 990, door pull handles added, brake & gas pedal added to dash,
firewall panel filler plate, header collectors, Lindberg heads enlarged with plastic sheet to fit Hemi Hilborn Intake,
B-Pillar center strips added, all fuel, ignition and brake lines, inner well hood pins & all glass from clear plastic sheet.

Modifications:
Besides making the original master for this model (shown on the "In progress" Page)...
Since TENSION was not a factory built A/FX, some mod's needed to be done to replicate this particular A/XS car.
The rear wheel wells were moved back 5" and the front wheel wells were moved forward 2 scale inches.
Chassis was lengthened by 2" by adding a section to the rear of the trunk floor.
The tips of the front wheel wells were removed and a lip around the bottom of the front valance made from .010 x .060.
A hole in the hood was cut out for the distributor & wires. The trunk lid was cut out and thinned.
The tail lights and housings were removed and hollowed out, door handles were removed and door handle holes were drilled.
Chrome windshield trim and rear window trim was removed and .010" strip was used to make windshield supports.
New B-Pillars and B-Pillar frame work inside the body were installed, holes in trunk valance were cut out and
2 - front quarter panel vents were made from 0.10" sheet plastic.

Scratch built features:
Windshield supports, B-pillars & frame work, trunk supports & gutters, 1/4 panel vents, roll bars,
engine bay down tubes, all steering rods, movable front spindles, entire radiator support,
aluminum firewall safety plate & throttle linkage. parachute box & supports, parachute pull & fuel shut off levers,
starter button & on-off power switch, parachute cable bracket, brake lines & fuel lines. Altered oil pan to be deep dish.
seat belts cut from ribbon, air foil, Champion spark plugs decal & ISKY decal.

Lindburg '64 Dodge 330 - Engine, heads, valve covers, oil pan (altered), starter, transmission, headers,

Paint:
Body - Pactra #RC5502 Arcrl Metallic Blue over Silver base.
Top of roof - Customized Metallic Blue with light blue pin stripe.
Chassis - Mild weathering using "Rust-All Treatment" rust & black colors only,
and dry brushing "AMERICAN" neutral gray over high areas.
Interior - Zolatone style splatter paint was done by hand using a tooth brush with
"Americana" Black, neutral gray & white Paints.

A/XS letters needed to be reversed and re-angled on right side.
All A/XS letters were painted over with met. gold.
"TENSION" door decal - Red area's were brush painted over with Guards Red (to match front spoke wheels).
White & Yellow pearl powders mixed with clear were brush painted over all the "TENSION" door letters.

Woodland Scenes Dry Transfer's:
All Metallic gold "Numbers & Letters" on rear 1/4 panel.

Modifications:
Since this model was made to be a standard Skylark-
the G/S hood scoops were omitted from build, the G/S emblem was removed from the grill.
The chrome side molding & hood spear was removed from body.
The chrome hood spear from AMT's Riviera hood was cast in resin and glued to the hood of the Speed City resin body.

Scratch built features:
Top trim and overlap strips were added to the roof (to simulate a vinyl top).
Scratch built the fender skirts, Interior Glass & antenna.

Lindberg '67 Olds 442- Chassis, engine, interior, (modified the steering wheel column/shifter).
Lindburg '64 Plymouth- Hub caps (as they were the closet match to '67 Buick hubcaps).

Parachute (from Parachute Parts Pack) (extended 4")

Body modifications:
Starting with an AMT/ERTL Mustang Funny Car, the rear wheel wells flares were sand down and stock wheel wells
from an AMT 1966 Mustang hardtop were used in place. Tear drop hood scoop was re-shaped with putty to a
"spade shape" and lowered with a new sheet of plastic. Grill area filled in with sheet plastic, side vent windows-
sail panel vents and windshield wipers were removed. Cowl vents filled in, rear valance and rear bumper molded to the
body. Hood molded to body, Inner door hinge frames were added. Middle insert panel of body (before the rear wheel wells)
were re-shaped. Side window trim backing was added. Sail panel vent trim and side window trim was corrected with
.020 strip plastic . Front clip was re-scribed and separated from body.

Scratch built features:
Tube frame, motor mounts, roll bars, padding & tape. Hood supports on frame & hood, fuel tank bracket,
floor pan, steering box & steering rods, seat mount, gas pedal bracket, brake cylinder, straight tube axle,
torsion bar suspension, drive train safety tube, Fuel shut off handle, rods & pivots, Inner door bracing,
grill block out, inner door hinge panels, rear wheel well tubs, rear inner body braces, fire wall / dog house & cowl.
Clear & blue tinted "Flush mounted" windows, cowl braces, headers (from solder),
frame around windshield (black pin stripe), fuel block, brake line block, brake lines, rear window straps &
Speed City Resin Direct Drive Unit.

One of my favorite drag cars of all time and one of the reasons I started Speed City.
To be able to build an accurate replica of this model was a 7 year journey and took 5 master models
to make before I could even attempt to build the model you see here.

Commissioned "Whoopie Kat Decals" to do the "Rambunctious"decals for this Dart.
I helped with all reference photos and sizing to fit the body. Although the font for the Rambunctious letters were too narrow
When I got them, so I used another set of decals, off-set them on an 45 angle, connecting the black lines and brush painted
the Rambunctious letters in brass metallizer. Whoopie Kat "Silver Machine Turn" decals on all interior panels.

'65 Dart- Rear Bumper

Body modifications:
To do an accurate version of this car, I started with the body of a '65 Dart Gene Snow Rambunctious body,
(since it had all the correct trim pieces). The B-Pillars were removed along with some of the window trim.
A rear Spoiler was made from a coke can. The front portions of the rear wheel wells from a Charlie Allen's
"Purple Terror" Dart were added (because the '65 Dart Rambunctious body has widened wheel wells).
The rear wheel wells were brought back to stock size, but with a cut out from the Charlie Allen "Purple Terror" Dart.
A Speed City '66 Long Nose Dart was needed for the front clip but the clip was shortened 8 scale inches to be 4" longer
than a stock '66 Dodge Dart. The cowl vents were filled in on the '65 Dart body and the hood was re-cut 2"
from the windshield almost half way into the hood and removed from the body. Hood supports were added to the bottom
of the hood and a new hole was cut for the blower. Hood supports were then added to the body of the front clip.
The front of the front wheel wells were re-cut so the wheels could be moved forward.
A new B-Pillar back up strip was added so the windows could be flush mounted.
Semi-hollow door handles were added to the body from a '66 Long Nose Dart. Rear window bracing was added
so the rear window could be flush mounted. The '66 Dart Grill had all the recess' filled in (to resemble a fiber glass grill),
and then the grill and front bumper was molded to the front clip (to resemble a fiber glass unit).

Scratch built added features:
(From Purple Terror Dart- the entire '66 Dart front clip- By adding a
scratch built hood, grill, bumpers, tail light moldings, front 1/4 panels & front wheel well moldings,
Front frame, Interior door panels, dog house, cowl, fuel tank support and cast in resin).
(from '65 Rambunctious Dart- Rear bumper chrome trim, bottom of drip rail, rear bumper & gas cap).
front tube straight axle, all steering rods, torsion bar suspension, transmission bracket, widened wheel wells,
front & rear Spoilers, windows (clear & tinted), rear window straps, roll bars, parachute pull loop handle,
Parachute straps, lines and connectors, wheelie bar leaf springs, fuel lines & brake lines.

Donor Parts:
Lindburg '64 Plymouth rear leaf springs.
Polar Lights F/C Hemi engine, headers and transmission.
Protech- Nuts & Bolts, pre wired distributor & Model Master - Hood pins.
Parts Box- Seat, steering wheel, gas pedal, brake pedal, drive train, parachute and wheelie wheels.

Paint:
Top of body painted in Model Master "Dusty Rose Pearl".
Bottom of body painted in Model Master "Arctic Blue Metallic"
(Thinning the paint and letting most the metallic fall to the bottom of the bottle, using only a mild blue metallic).
Interior of front clip: Zolatone style splatter paint was done by hand using "Americana" paints & tooth brush.
Chassis: Rust-All Treatment - mild weathering

1966 DODGE DART G/T - SIX

Speed City Parts added:
Goodyear Blue Streak *Funny Car* front racing tires (resembles 14" Tires) with hand painted white lines.

Modifications to resin model:
Created the original master model... Starting with a Speed City 1965 Dodge Dart AFX AWB Funny Car,
then a Charlie Allen "PURPLE TERROR" Dart then and converting that into a Stock '66 Dart by adding:
New grill, head lights, F&R bumpers, F&R marker lights, hood (and moldings), front 1/4 panels, front wheel well moldings,
B-pillars, side window trim, sail panel trim, antenna mount, gas cap, rear trunk valance, tail lights, re-designed interior tub,
package tray, dashboard, and chassis from a '66 Ply Valiant and added Lindburg Dodge 330 windshield wipers to body
and had it all cast in resin.

G/T conversion features added:
G/T style roof trim (using .010 X .020 sq. strip), front 1/4 panel trim & badges, door trim, rocker panel trim,
G/T style trunk valance, B-pillar "window trim", door locks, steering wheel top ring, glass from K&S clear plastic,
tail pipe, hub cap (center caps).

Scratch built features added to the build:
Chassis wheel wells & lower front splash pan were extended with Plastic sheet.
Promo letters removed from chassis and screw holes filled, door locks, antenna, wing window hinges,
window glass from K&S .010 clear plastic.

Donor Parts:
Hubcaps from MPC 1967 Toronado, (reworked to look like '66 Dart hubcaps),
MPC '66 Charger side mirrors & rear view mirror, photo-etch license plates by Model Master, parts box wheel backs.

Paint:
Plasti-coat sandable primer, Plasti-coat white top, original paint color by:

Decals:
Commissioned "Keith Marks Decals" to do the decals for this Dart.
Decals used: G/T badges on the sail panel, DART letters on the rear 1/4 panels, DODGE letters on trunk valence and hood.
